KUNSTHAUS NRW KORNELIMÜNSTER

Curator Art Education & Events 2022 - today
Public Relations & Audience Development, Content Management & Social Media 2016 - 2022

The exhibition program of the KUNSTHAUS NRW KORNELIMÜNSTER offers an insight into North Rhine-Westphalia’s current and future art scene. Since 1948, North Rhine-Westphalia has been purchasing works by young artists to support them. Today, the collection numbers above 5000 works, documenting the history of North Rhine-Westphalia’s art to the immediate present day through works by artists such as Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Mary Bauermeister, Günther Uecker, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Katharina Grosse, Katharina Sieverding, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky and Thomas Ruff. Through its focus on the early works of the individual artists, the collection mediates a unique overview of the changes and shifts in tendencies. The temporary exhibitions, on the other hand, highlight the current development of art in NRW and beyond. The Kunsthaus is hosted in the baroque palace building of the old Abbey of Kornelimünster.

Souvenirs

Publication Series - Kunsthaus NRW, Kornelimünster

The Kunsthaus is decorated with over 70 Baroque wall and ceiling paintings that Prince-Abbot Alfons Hyazinth von Suys commissioned from Aachen, Liège and Venetian painters from 1721 onwards. These parade rooms of the Kornelimünster Abbey had a special function: pilgrims passed through these rooms on their way to the three "Biblical reliquaries" in the abbey church, relics of Christ from Charlemagne's treasure. The ceiling paintings therefore depict the "journey of a deceased soul to its redemption". Bill From Bow gave a graphic interpretation of these motifs for a series of souvenirs that are now sold at the Kunsthaus.

Raumbuch

Publication - Kunsthaus NRW, Kornelimünster

Concept and text for the guidebook »gestalten – Ein Jahrhundert abstrakte Kunst im Westen«: Instead of labels for individual artworks, which direct the visitor's gaze next to the artwork, we have opted for a direct confrontation between art and visitor, through publishing a room book with corresponding information. Design by Morphoria Design Collective.

Maltafeln

Museum Education - Kunsthaus NRW, Kornelimünster

An integral part of the exhibition »gestalten – Ein Jahrhundert abstrakte Kunst im Westen« was an interactive art education project. For each of the six chapters you could find a 'Maltafel' in the exhibition rooms. The visitors were invited to playfully experience the freedom of design and think about the limits of art in the context of society, asking the questions: “What is freedom? What are boundaries?” | “What form does the subconscious take?” | “How can colours be formed?” | “How many shapes fit into a rectangle?” | “What is the sound of time?” | “How are networks created?”
